ABSTRACT: Chickpea is the third most important crop of rainfed areas of Pakistan, and it is severely affected by noxious weed Asphodelus tenuifolius. Therefore, a field trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of different allelopathic weed extracts, herbicides and mulches in controlling A. tenuifolius and other associated weeds in chickpea at “District Karak” Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-Pakistan. The experiment was carried out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) and replicated thrice using a chickpea cultivar (Chattan) which was grown for the experimental trial. There were 9 treatments along with control for comparison. The treatments Stomp 330 EC (Pre-emergence) at 2.5 L ha-1, Fenoxaprop-p-ethyl, Bromoxanil+MCPA (Tank mix), Starane-M, mulching... |

Our study aims at making progress the estimate of herbicide and nutrient inputs to the Marennes-Oleron bay which could influence summer oysters mortalities, and to bring, a better understanding of the impact on coastal ecosystems by modelling the dynamics of these compounds in the shellfish-farming area. The development of a strategy adapted to the river Charente and its estuary reveals that agricultural activity on the watershed area is omnipresent, as well on the level of the nitrogen as on the one of herbicides contributions. It is thus necessary to specify Charente fluxes, which is the main tributary of the Marennes-Oleron bay, in order to better characterize its impact on shell fish-farming activity. Hydrodynamic modelling will constitute an... |

To investigate the effects of trifluralin, chlorimuron and clomazone on morphology and assimilate partitioning during soybean development, plants were grown in a greenhouse and sampled at 14-day intervals. Clomazone reduced stem and leaf dry matter accumulation at 14 days after emergence (DAE), while trifluralin and chlorimuron reduced plant part dry matter accumulation up to 28 DAE. The number of leaves, plant height, mass and number of pods and seeds, and the shoot/root ratio were not influenced by the herbicides. Roots, stems and leaves were the preferred sinks up to the R2 growth stage, while pods and developing seeds became the preferred sinks later. This order was not altered by the herbicides. |

ABSTRACT: The destruction of cotton stalks after harvesting is a prophylactic measure aimed at reducing the population of insects and disease inoculants that may remain in the crop residues and remaining cotton plants. The objective of this work was to evaluate integrated methods of management of the cotton stalks, combining mechanical and chemical control, to promote the eradication of cotton stalks. A 7x5 factorial experiment was installed where seven different methods of mechanical control of cotton stalk and five herbicide treatments were tested. The percentage of control (visual scale of 0 to 100%) and the number of plants regrowth per meter were evaluated at 14, 28 and 50 days after herbicide application treatment. At the end of the experiment, the... |

Abstract Herbicides can impact non-target metabolic pathways in natural enemies and lead to the reduction of these populations in the field. Behavioral characteristics, morphology and histology of reproductive structures and reproduction of females of Podisus nigrispinus (Dallas) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) were evaluated under the effect of the herbicides atrazine, nicosulfuron and the mixture of both. The number of mature oocytes per ovary was lower in females exposed to the herbicides atrazine, nicosulfuron and the mixture of both. Herbicides did not affect the longevity and mortality of P. nigrispinus, therefore, they are selective for this predator. On the other hand, herbicides can cause sublethal effects by affecting the reproduction of predators. |

Using an augmented profit function framework designed to account for externalities related to chemical use in agriculture, this paper explains the chemical use choices of farmers in an urban fringe farming environment. It further estimates empirical logit models of reduced insecticide, fungicide, herbicide, and fertilizer usage. Results suggest that farmers who perceive their regulatory environment to be strict, who have experienced right-to-farm conflicts, and who have farms larger in size are more likely to reduce their chemical use over time, vis-à-vis other farmers. The results also suggest the importance of other farm structural and business climate factors in determining chemical use reduction choices. |

ABSTRACT Adjustment of planting geometry along with reduced applications of herbicides can be a viable tool for effective weed management in rice. This present study has examined the effects of three planting geometries (20 cm x 20 cm, 20 cm x 10 cm and 10 cm x 10 cm); along with early post emergence herbicides, viz; bispyribac sodium 20% WP at 39.50 g a.i. ha-1, bispyribac sodium 100 SC at 39.50 g a.i. ha-1, cyhalofop-butyle 10% EC at 49.50 g a.i. ha-1, and penoxulam 240 EC at 15 g a.i. ha-1 on weed growth, and rice performance under semi-arid climate. A weedy check was maintained as control where no herbicide was applied. Results showed that the narrowest plant spacing (10 cm x 10 cm) effectively controlled weeds; however, it also resulted in reduced... |
